$4.6 million grant giving former inmates a second chance

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) received a $4.6 million Partners for Reentry Opportunities in Workforce Development (PROWD) Grant. The funding, which comes from the U.S. Department of Labor in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice, will be used to extend employment services to individuals who are incarcerated or released from federal prisons.
Workforce Solutions Alamo is one of eight TWC boards that will utilize the funds to implement improved reentry services. PROWD programs offer skills-building and job training services including apprenticeships in growing industries. Locally, Goodwill will offer the program. Workforce Solutions Alamo will work with Crosspoint to enroll federally incarcerated or formerly incarcerated people.
This program is funded 100% by federal resources, with a total allocation locally of $1,174,500.
