Goodwill holds Commencement Ceremony for Graduates of the Good Careers Academy
Goodwill celebrated over 60 graduates who have earned their certificate of completion from one of the following programs: Medical Assistant, Nurse’s Aide, Pharmacy Technician, or Commercial Driver License. The commencement ceremony took place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 28, at Palo Alto College’s Performing Arts Center.
“We are immensely proud of our graduates' achievements and their dedication to transforming their lives through education and skill-building,” said Carlos J. Contreras, President and CEO at Goodwill San Antonio. “As they move on to establishing meaningful careers and achieving upward mobility, we look forward to witnessing each of them make their mark in our community and uplift those around them.”
With several locations in the region, Goodwill’s Good Careers Academy supports workforce development for the community by offering comprehensive and accredited vocational training in high-demand fields at no cost for tuition. The academy’s approach to instruction goes beyond the traditional classroom setting, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning. Under the mentorship of highly skilled instructors, students acquire vital skills that empower them to thrive in today's competitive job market.
Since its inception in 2009, nearly 1,600 students have earned a credential from Goodwill’s Good Careers Academy. According to a 2020 study conducted by the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Urban Education Institute, Goodwill’s Good Careers Academy graduates, on average, earn 73% more income upon four years of completing their respective training programs.
